Pura Dalem Penataran Ped at Nusa Penida is a temple to honor God as creator of Purusa and Pradana. Purusa is soul spirits which bring life to nature. Pradana is physical power which shows Purusa’s power. Hindu’s people pray to Pura Dalem Penataran Ped to get life balance in spiritual and physical, because harmony only can be created by spiritual and physical balance.
In Ratu Nusa manuscript of such palm leaves, there are a story about Siva sent Dewi Uma to take place at Puncak Mundi Nusa Penida, following by Bhuta Kala as a symbol for physical power, shaped as time and space. At Puncak Mundi temple, Dewi Uma has a title as Dewi Rohini and has a son with title Dalem Sahang. Dalem Sahang chief minister titled I Renggan from Jambu Dwipa – great great grandfather of Dukuh Jumpungan.
Dukuh Jumpungan was born from relationship between Batara (God) Guru with Ni Mrenggi, one of Dewi Uma’s servant. Passion of Batara Guru looks like cloud which call limun, so He also call as Hyang Halimunan. This passion received soul from Hyang Trimurti and became human. After getting many trainings, this passion given a name as Dukuh Jumpungan and has a duty as healer. After generations, Dukuh Jumpungan has an heir named I Gotra, famous as I Mecaling or Ratu Gede Nusa.
Ratu Gede Nusa looks like Batara Kala. Ida Pedanda Made Sidemen comment from Griya Taman Sanur which contained in Temple History book created by IHD Denpasar team says that: when God from Gunung Agung, Batukaru, and Rambut Siwi going to Bali, followed by 1,500 ghosts.
Those 500 ghosts with five powers became follower of Ratu Gede Nusa as gift from God of Mount Agung because of His hard asceticism. Beside that, God of Mount Agung also giving gift and authority to take human sacrifice.
Pura Dalem Penataran Ped use to pray for Siva Durgha. In this pura, Purusa from God of Mount Agung meet with Batari (Goddess) Uma Durgha from Puncak Mundi. From this meeting, then gave birth for Rambut Sedana, unlimited resources of nature which giving life for all of us.
